AHSCS RFGP

Pre Race: The RFGP always brings a large crowd, and this year was nothing different. On Saturday I was able to ride a couple laps in the team race to get a feel for the track after the atv’s raced. The weather was perfect Sunday, we had nearly 15 pros, and I was ready to go racing.

Race: I got a good jump, and rounded the first couple of turns in about 5th. When we hit the woods I quickly tried to make some moves to get to the front. That was probably a bad idea, seeing as I went down twice in the first mile which put me back to basically last. The first few miles were tight, muddy single track, and I had to follow everyone through. Once we got to the faster stuff, I began to move forward. I finished the first lap in about 6th. I continued to push, and caught Bryan Vaughan in the tight woods. I got around him when he got squirrely on a slick diagonal log. Next, I caught Matt Crouch and Cameron Ishmael. We were able to ride together for a lap, then about the time Cameron started charging, Crouch had some bike problems leaving Ishmael and I alone. We rode together the next lap, and going into the 4th lap we both pitted. I pulled in and put a little over a gallon in my Clockwork tank, and I was back out. Ishmael and I battled that lap, and then going into the 5th and final lap my dad was telling me Vaughan was 2 minutes down so I just needed to ride smart and finish. I slowed down the pace just a little, and finished the race in 3rd overall behind Tony Joiner and Ishmael. This was a really good race for me, considering the fast, whooped out stuff is not my specialty. With this finish, I was able to wrap up the Arkansas Harescramble Championship for the 2nd year in a row. I want to thank everyone so much who has helped me get to where I am today, and supported me all the way.

Results: (overall) 1. Tony Joiner (Kaw)

                                  2. Cameron Ishmael (Kaw)

                                  3. Zach Ingram (KTM)

                                  4. Bryan Vaughan (KTM)

                                  5. Austin Henderson (Kaw)
