AHSCS Round 5- Sturkie

Pre Race: My dad was not able to go this weekend, so for the first time ever my mom took Jake and I racing. The weather was calling for rain all weekend so we were prepared for that. It rained on us the whole way there, but once we pulled in around 1:30 it stopped. We got some practice in and the track was pretty fun. It was really rocky with a few blind corners, but it got better as more riders beat it in. Kyle Henderson, the captain of our House of Horsepower/Rekluse 24 hour team, came early on Saturday as well. He brought the bike we will ride this year and I got to test it out. The 2010 KTM 300 XC was awesome. Saturday night we hooked up the lights to the bike, and tested that out as well. Luckily the rain held off, and it was making for great race conditions. I was ready to go!

Race: I got a descent jump off the line, and was 4th going into the woods. I pushed hard to get to the front and did just that. Soon after I got the lead I missed a turn and quickly fell back to third. For the next 2 laps I rode right behind Bryan Vaughan and Kyle Henderson. At the end of the third lap, Bryan and I stopped for gas, but Kyle kept charging. My mom did great with the gas, and I was out of the pits ahead of Bryan. After the gas I pushed hard to catch back up to Kyle. Once I caught him, he waved me by(I think he was getting tired). I pushed hard while continuing to be smart the rest of the race, and ended up with a solid 3 minute lead over second place Bryan Vaughan. The race went pretty good for me, despite a few mistakes I made trying to pass lappers. The KTM worked great, and I’m really looking forward to the Pennsylvania GNCC next weekend, and the Perry Mountain 24 hour challenge a couple weeks after that. I want to thank my mom for taking us this weekend, and Kyle Henderson for coming out and allowing us to test out some things on the 24 hour race bike.

Results: 1. Zach Ingram

                3. Kyle Henderson
