BJEC Round 2

Pre Race: We went to this race last year, and I really liked the trails which made my decision to go back this year. My dad and brother were not able to go, so I made the trip with a few local buddies. I hadn’t raced an enduro in a couple of years, so I knew the time keeping would be somewhat difficult. I was truly just out for some practice and a good time, although the race face always seems to show up.

Race: The first loop went really good for me, and I think I was in the overall lead at the first gas stop. After gas, I somehow forgot to put my camelback on and didn’t realize it until I was back out on the trail. Luckily, the first test of that loop ended right by the trailer. I rushed back to get it, and from there I had to push really hard to get back on time. The second loop consisted of some pretty tough obstacles and bottle necks. This really slowed me down, but I managed to make it through. I knew I had a lead on the competition going into the last loop; therefore, my goal was to keep a steady pace and not make any mistakes. Unfortunately, I forgot to reset my mileage on my computer and started the loop 55 seconds down. I think this was a common mistake because 2nd place Kole Henslee said he did the same thing. This mistake got me all pumped up, and I really pushed trying to get that minute back. The rest of that loop went good until about 5 miles from the finish when I got a front flat. It was very difficult to ride on in the technical Missouri terrain, but I was able to finish. I lost a couple of minutes in that test, but still finished with a solid overall victory. I did not have a perfect day, but for the most part it was good. I loved the trails, and my new KTM with all my products worked amazing.

Results: 1. Zach Ingram

                 2. Kole Henslee

                 3. Lars Valin
