Pre Race: Dad and I woke up very early Sunday morning, and headed to Scipio, Oklahoma. My dad, Jim, was able to ride this weekend, now that we have a new 2010 KTM 250 XCW (thanks to Bill Eddy’s Motorsports). Rumor had it that this race would be a true time keeper, which got me a little nervous, because my timekeeping skills are not to impressive. We got signed up on row 22, and were ready to race.
Race: The first loop was really easy, but also fun. When we got to the first check, I noticed it was a green one. As soon as I saw the flags, I started thinking whether or not this was the one to go in at 30 seconds. In the heat of the moment I couldn’t think that fast, and I got 38 seconds there (ended up costing me the overall). The rest of the loop was pretty much a trail ride. The second loop was supposed to be the hardest, so I was prepared for that. There was another green flag check at the end of that loop, and I did a little better with 34 seconds, still zero minutes. Jim only rode the short course, and he managed to finish that with zero as well. Him doing that tells you it wasn’t that hard, because he hasn’t ridden or raced in a long time. Going into the third loop, I thought for sure we would drop some points. The last loop consisted of two tests, with a reset in the middle. I made the first check within my minute relatively easy. The last section was a little tougher, but I still managed to stay in my minute. I finished the day with zero minutes and only 34 seconds, but that wasn’t enough. Congratulations to Brady Meador for the overall win. He hit those two green checks better than me. I really enjoyed this race, but I have to say it wasn’t a true test of the fastest rider. All in all, it was a quality event put on by the Tulsa Trail Riders. Next weekend is round 11 of the Arkansas Harescrambles. Check back next week for that report.
Results (Overall) 1. Brady Meador (BMB)
2. Zach Ingram (KTM)
3. Mark Cantell
