Loretta Lynn GNCC

November 4-6, 2011

Pre Race: We headed to the double header weekend at Loretta Lynn’s ranch Thursday afternoon. The plan was to race the bike race on Friday and Sunday so we were in for a
long weekend of racing. Friday morning I got signed up and was ready for some racing.

Race: I believe I counted 12 riders in the 250A class on the starting line. I got a
descent jump and went into the woods in 4th place. Plessinger was out front,
and I knew he would set a fast pace. I settled in behind Grant Baylor with Zach
Nash was behind me. The three of us rode the first lap together and I was
thinking I can hang with these guys. I realized I really need to practice some
motocross and fast field sections. I lost some time to those guys at the end of
lap one, and was never able to catch them after that. I continued to push until
I got the two lap board and I was exhausted. I could barely stand up by the
time I crossed the finish line. I ended up 3rd in 250A and 32nd overall and I
was happy with that result. After the race Friday night and into Saturday I was
extremely sore which made my mind up to ride the morning race on Sunday. I rode
the Sportsman A class and was hoping to finish in the top three so I could get
on the podium and maybe get some recognition. I lined up on the first row with
over 20 bikes. When the flagged waved my KTM really came to life, giving me the
holeshot and the lead into the woods. Darin Downs, Shawn Clark, and Tyler
Macdonald were all right behind me. We rode the first lap together, basically
in single file swapping back and forth a few times as the trail was almost
virgin. When we got to the moto track once again those guys put a gap on me. I
could still see them, but I was back in 4th place. I charged to catch Macdonald
and we rode the second lap together, but he got away from me on the third lap
when I had a pretty bad get off. I rode hard to the finish and ended up third
behind Downs and Clark. I achieved my goal on both races this weekend so I’m
happy with the way everything turned out. The GNCC tracks definitely don’t suit
my style, but I still enjoy racing them and I think it helps with my speed and
endurance. Maybe we will get to do a few next year.
