Pre-Race:Heading into the final round of the series I was pretty much stuck in my
current position for the points. I had nothing to lose, nor nothing to gain so
I was just riding for fun. We arrived Friday morning to very cold and rainy
weather. We were signed up on row 9, and I thought that would be great for the
potential muddy conditions.
Race: The race started with a 9 mile test right off the bat. The trails were really fun, but
very slick. The grass tracks and roots were really getting to me early on in
the race. The second test was another nine mile section. I crashed at the
beginning of that, and then ended up getting lost for a moment, but luckily
they threw that test out. The third test was about like the previous two. The fourth was for sure my favorite of the day. The dirt was beginning to dry out a little, and this section wasn’t virgin like the previous two. After that we were back at camp to fill up with gas and
get some fresh Smith goggles. The fifth test was a lot of brand new stuff through
very thick brush. The last test was the toughest of the day for me. I was only
the fourth bike to ride through that section and it was very hard to read the
trail without an established line. All in all it was a great day for me, and I
had an amazing time. I finished the day well, and wrapped up 2nd in
250A and 17th overall for the year! I want to give a special thanks to everyone who helps me out and allows me to compete in this sport that I love so much. I’m already looking forward to going after the overall A championship in 2012.
