Zach Ingram National Enduro Round 3
Kalgary, Texas
April 3, 2011
Pre Race: We rolled into the event Saturday afternoon, and quickly realized it was going to be different than anything we have ever ridden. There was nothing around us. It was a barren desert with random rocky mountains here and there. Apparently they hadn’t had rain since October, so it was going to be a dust bowl! We got my bike ready with some new Bridgestone tires, and I was ready to roll.
Race: On the start, this guy on our row said he was going first because he has his “pro motocross license”, and if I wanted by just rev and he would let me, so I said okay. We get going in the first test, and immediately I realized I needed to get around this guy. I was revving, yelling, running into his back tire (when I could get close enough because the dust), and he still wouldn’t let me by. I ended up having to eat his dust the whole 10 mile test. After that test I gave him a little talk, and we worked it out to where I went first from now on. The second test was a lot more fun for me. It was fast, but I didn’t have much traffic so I rode well. The third test was the killer. It was a 10 mile test that apparently is well known around there as “Rambo”. When I finished the test I understood why. It was tight, off camber, rocky, hilly, and had absolutely no flow. I was beat at the end of that test. I told my dad I wasn’t even sure If I could finish after that one. The temperatures were in the high 90′s all day, and that was definitely effecting me. I made myself keep going though. The fourth test was somewhat like the second one, and I just rode consistent, trying to save some energy for the finish. The fifth test was really sandy, and very fast, and I was able to ride pretty well through there. The final test was a mix of everything we had ridden all day. I gave it everything I had, and finished 4th in 250A and 21st overall, my best finish yet. I have to say I was not prepared for the heat, and this race kicked my butt; although, my KTM could not have been better, and the Moose Sahara gear played a big role. We were all able to finish safe with no bike problems, and Jake won C Overall again, so it was a good day with all things considered. I’m looking forward to the next round in Tennessee.
Results(250A): 1. Morgan Moss (HSQ)
2. Paddy Holloway (KTM)
3. Mike Berenbak (KTM)
4. Zach Ingram (KTM)
5. Ben Smith (HSQ)
