Pre Race: The weeks leading up to this event have been very busy for me as I have graduated from high school, and had my 18th birthday. This was the first national race I hadever been to in Arkansas, so I was excited to have a little home field
advantage. We arrived at the track Saturday afternoon to beautiful weather and
an awesome field to camp in. I was hoping the KTM guys would be doing the demo
rides like usual because I could actually do it this time (18 years old), but
the trails were to wet. We got signed up and relaxed the rest of the day,
getting ready to go racing!

Race: It rained on and off all night which made the already wet trails even wetter. The
first test was going great for me until it started raining again and I was
forced to shed the goggles. The rocky terrain held the water well, and I really
enjoyed that first test in the rain. The second test was a lot sloppier than
the first. I managed to make it through without any big mistakes, but didn’t
feel like I rode very fast. Next was the first gas stop. I quickly filled with
gas, got some fresh Smith goggles and new Moose gloves, and was back out. The
transfer sections after both gas stops were very confusing for everyone. They
had us going down these dirt roads with two-way traffic, and no one could find
the start of the next test. Luckily I ran into a course worker who pointed me
in the right direction. The third test was very tight, off-camber stuff. I felt
great through there but unfortunately they ended up throwing that one out
because so many people were late to the check in. The fourth test was by far my
worst of the day. I lost my rear brakes completely for about a mile which
really hurt me, then I kept making little mistakes. I regrouped at the second
gas, and was determined to ride better the next two tests. The fifth test was
probably my best of the day. It was more rocky single track, and I was able to
get comfortable and ride the way I know how. The last test was only six miles.
I gave it all I had and finished strong. I finished the day with my best result
so far in the series with second in 250A and 14th Overall(2nd amateur). I’m
very pleased with my day, and can’t wait for Wyoming!
