Pre-Race- The crew headed out Friday afternoon after school and work. We arrived to a nice place to camp Saturday around noon. We all got signed up and the bike prep done, and were ready for a good race.
Race- We had a local pro on our row, and I wasn’t sure if that was going to help or hurt me. I think it turned out to help me. I went first in the first test and could hear Travis Green behind me for a while. The test was really tight and technical which is what I do best. I slowly pulled away and finished out of sight of him. The second test was a little
different. I went first, but Green got by me about halfway through the test in
a fast grass track section. He was riding really smooth and taking great lines,
so I just followed him to the finish of that test. The third test was about the
same as the second. Green and I went back and forth finishing together. Next
was the gas stop. My bike was working great, so I didn’t really have anything
to do but get gas and some fresh Smith goggles. The fourth test was really fun,
consisting of relatively fast and flowing trail. The fifth test was the
shortest of the day, and I knew I needed to keep mistakes at a minimum. I rode
smooth and once again Green and I finished together. The last test was going to
be the most important of the day. The test was the longest and supposed to be
the most technical. I felt like I rode really good, finished a ways ahead of
Green. I finished the day with 3rd in my class and 18th
overall. My goal was top 15, so I was a little disappointed, but I really felt
like I rode awesome. I was having really fun, and can’t complain one bit. I’m
now in 18th overall in the points and hopefully I can move up a few
more at the last race coming up in Indiana.
