OCCRA Round 6

Gruber OCCRA

Pre Race: This weekend was father’s day, so we decided not to camp Saturday night. Instead, we went to lake ten killer on Saturday to enjoy the lake, and drove to the race early Sunday morning. I got 2 laps of practice in, and felt really comfortable. The bike was working great and I was looking forward to a great day.

Race: I got an average jump off the line, but had a great drive rounding the first turn and entered the woods with the lead. I put my head down and charged the first lap because I knew I had the speed to open up a gap early. At the end of the first lap I had about a minute lead over another Arkansas rider, Parker Nolen. I continued to push the second lap and was having a flawless ride. At the end of that lap, I had over a minute lead on 2nd. Starting the third lap I was catching lappers which caused my lap time to slow down some. For some reason the lappers in Oklahoma always want to put a fight and race me. About halfway through the 3rd lap my race fell apart. I had a rear flat. I finished that lap, but then had to pull off. I could barely ride with the flat and I didn’t want to tear up my rim any more than I already had. I am really bummed because the KTM was doing awesome and I felt great. My Moose sahara gear played a big role today keeping me cool. Parker is a friend of mine from Fort Smith, so I was excited to see someone from my home town in Arkansas win the race.

 Results: 1. Parker Nolen

                2. Brad Wilson

                3. Ryan Woodard

                4. Zach Ingram
