Pre Race: We got to the track Saturday in time to do the fun race and practice. The fun race track was fast four wheeler track and a little muddy, but practice was awesome. Fast fresh virgin trail with a lot of elevation change. The conditions were also perfect. I was really excited for the race.
Race: I got another average jump off the line, but I lined up on the inside and was able to make my way to 2nd when we hit the woods. I quickly got into the lead after Zach Klamfoth stalled his bike. I pushed hard to try and get away the next few miles, and once I did I realized I was all alone. I didn’t know if I should slow down and conserve my energy or keep pushing. About the time those things were going through my head, Team Green rider Jake Fiddler caught me. He got around me, but I was hanging right there with him for a long time. Toward the end of the first lap, he went down allowing me to get back into the lead. He put a charge on the second lap, then caught and passed me. This time I was not able to keep up with him. Not to long after that, Klamfoth caught me. We battled for a lap until it was time for me to pit. I pulled in, got some fresh Smith goggles, a drink, and a splash of gas, and then I was gone. During the pit, dad told me I was 12th overall and my goal for this race was Top 10 so I kept charging. I was not able to catch up to Klamfoth, but I rode really solid the rest of the race, and finished 3rd in Open A and 10th overall (16 seconds away from 9th). I was really happy with my result considering 6 of the Top 10 were factory riders. This was the most fun I have had on a motorcycle in a while. The track was awesome, and everything on my KTM was flawless. We don’t have anything on the schedule until the next Arkansas race in September, but I’m going to work on dad to try and go to the next OMA in Indiana at the end of the month.
