Yadkin Valley Stomp GNCC

Pre Race: It was a very long 16 hour drive to Yadkinville, North Carolina. We finally got there around 2:00 Saturday afternoon. The track looked really dusty from the pits, but we walked some of the woods and it was about perfect. We checked out the big creek jump, and at first I wasn’t really sure if I was going to do it or not. It was pretty big and scary, with a huge consequence if you don’t make it. Once we inspected a lot of the trails we got my bike ready and I was ready to race.

Race: When the flag waved I was dead last off the line. For some reason I just can’t get my starts down with the new bike. I made up a few positions before we hit the first woods section, and tried to push hard to catch up to the leaders. I had arm pump really bad the first lap and a half, but once that went away I felt really good. The track was tight compared to a typical GNCC which really suited my style. I was in 4th or 5th the whole race until the last couple of laps. I was really tired, but my dad was giving me the pit board that said I was catching 3rd place so I had to keep pushing. Going into the last lap I was in 4th, and 1 minute down from 3rd. I gave it everything I had that lap. I finally caught Zac Nash a couple miles from the finish. We were headed into a woods section, and I knew a place where I could get him. I snuck up on him, trying to be really quiet. When we got to my line I gassed it and caught him by surprise. I gave it everything I had the next 2 miles, and ended up with a solid podium finish in the 250A class. I was very happy with my ride, but there are still a few things I need to work on for the GNCC races. Thanks to everyone who helped make this happen, and a special thanks to my mom for everything she does for me.

Congratulations Zach! Keep practicing those starts with Jake and you will have those guys beat at the GNCC’s!

That creek jump does look very intimidating! Did you jump it?

  3. Zach Ingram says:

Yeah Jake is definately better than me at starts. I jumped the creek every lap except for the last one. It got rutted out and a lot harder after 3 hours of racing.

  4. Nathan Bolton says:

Looks like zach is a pretty popular name in your class. Good Job

  5. Zach Ingram says:

There are 5 Zachs in the class. It would be sweet to have us all in the top 5.
